What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is the body’s normal reaction to stress. It is apprehension or fear about what is to come. Going to a job interview or giving a speech on the first day of school, for example, may make some people anxious and uncomfortable.
However, if your anxiety symptoms are severe, remain for at least 6 months, and interfere with your daily life, you may have an anxiety disorder.
What are anxiety disorders?
Anxiety disorders are conditions in which you experience persistent anxiety that might worsen over time. Symptoms can disrupt daily activities such as job performance, schoolwork, and relationships.
What are the types of anxiety disorders?
GAD sufferers are concerned about everyday matters such as health, money, work, and family. Their concerns, however, are severe and they have had them virtually every day for at least 6 months.
Panic attacks occur in people with panic disorder. These are brief, recurring episodes of extreme fear in the absence of threat. The episodes are sudden and can last several minutes or longer.
People who suffer from phobias are terrified of something that provides little or no actual harm. Their phobias could be spiders, flying, crowded areas, or social situations (known as social anxiety).
What factors contribute to anxiety disorders?
The cause of anxiety is unknown.
Your environment, stress, and factors like your genetics and brain chemistry could all be contributing factors.
